Replacing belts and decks when needed is a smart decision
Due to budget or time constraints, many treadmill owners are not aware of the potential damage or loss of functionality to the machine if the belt and deck replacement is delayed beyond the recommended timeframe. The lack of attention to this issue can cost you more money and down time in the long term. Replacing belts and decks will extend the life of the Treadmill
Why replacing belts and decks will extend the life of the Treadmill
When a treadmill is operated while someone is running or walking on the treadmill belt, it causes friction between the belt and deck. Some of the friction is reduced by the wax that is initially applied to the deck and/or impregnated in the walking belt. Over time, the wax wears down and isn’t as effective as it was initially. If the treadmill is used over a certain prescribed amount of hours or miles determined by the manufacturer, the friction will begin to increase, causing it to draw more amps from the drive motor and electronics. If the electronics, including the drive motor, operate at a high temperature over time, they can become damaged and need replacement.
How to check your belt and deck for extensive wear
When the walking belt moves over the deck, it creates wear and eventually grooves in the deck – this is more obvious in positions where users’ feet are stepping while using it. You can check for deck wear by lifting up the upper part of the belt and rubbing your hand across it; sometimes you can see grooves with a flashlight.
Invest when needed or pay more later
In conclusion, if you don’t replace belts and decks when they need to be, you may lose functionality and experience downtime due to damage to treadmill components, which will cost you more money in the long run because you will have to buy more parts and pay for more repairs. Some owners try to save money by only replacing the deck, but we recommend replacing both deck and belt together so you don’t prematurely wear down a new deck with the underside of worn-out belt.
